Why?

The past 5 years I have worked to ensure the stories of the Holocaust are remembered throughout my community. Looking back at this journey I am reminded why I began and why this holds a strong place in my heart.

Over this journey I have had the opportunity to hear survivors share their stories and testimonies. Every time they relive their experiences so that we, as future generations, can learn from them. Their stories have impacted on me greatly and will remain with me throughout my life.  With every testimony we hear, we become witnesses of history but more importantly the truth. I feel incredibly privileged to have been able to work with them through community and educational events. Every time I speak with a survivor I make a promise to continue their legacy for future generations.

Time is currently limited, the generational gap between survivors and our generation is getting bigger. We are in a transition period where we know survivors will not be around much longer to share their testimony in person. It is down to us as the next generation to continue sharing their stories and more importantly the truth into the future.

Today's climate means that now more than ever the work of the Holocaust Educational Trust and the ambassadors they support are so important. With the growth of antisemitism and hatred in society today it is important to share the lessons of the past to create a better future. We are the generations to make a difference in society and initiate change no matter how small. It is that change that motivates me to continue to educate others and share stories of the past to protect the future.

The aim of this blog going forward is to continue to share the individual's stories of the Holocaust whilst looking at today's matters and standing up for change. I also hope it will look at the work of the #HETAmbassdor community and demonstrate the work that they do in their communities.
